Top 10 tips on Picnic Food Safety
We all love to enjoy our
holidays and weekends with friend’s families and dear ones and we have kids
around and they want to enjoy too on these events so we plan picnics and get
going to the place we love most. But in the whole process, we should always
remember that the food safety of our picnic is important and it’s no fun so plan,
pack and transport carefully. “You don’t want to visit the doctor after a fun-filled weekend”.

Tips on picnic food safety
1. Keep things clean during
preparation your chopping board, knife, work platform, utensils and not to
forget your hands.
2. Separate raw food and cooked
food during packing for a picnic as well.
3. Separate high risk (meats, sea
food etc.) from low-risk food (vegetables, salads).
4. Stack properly- Pack the high
risk food at the lowest level in your picnic basket in sealed bags pouches or
containers.
5. Cook the food properly check the
center of the food is properly cooked. Don’t pack partially cooked food as you
are giving room for harmful bacteria to grow during transportation.
6. Transport safely in insulated
containers – separate for cold and hot items
7. Don’t take out food from
insulated until you need them.
8. Don’t leave your containers in
the sun.
9. Discard leftover if they have
been exposed to Room temperature for more than two hours.
10. My top tip would be to try packing non-perishable( tissue, disposable cutlery) and perishable(The FOOD) separately in
separate baskets and let one person be
responsible for safe handling of food in out from the basket. Multiple handling
will increase the chance of cross-contamination.
